IT'S WOOL WEEK!
Unless you've been roaming around central London it may have passed you by so far, but it is in fact wool week in the UK! The Campaign for Wool have a brilliant map of shops to visit tomorrow night for late night shopping in central London and other wonderful things to do all in support of british wool!
If like me, you aren't based in London I think the best way to get involved is to hit Pinterest hard and get some inspiration! and even better ....I've done it for you! Yes, it was a hard day in the studio today with some serious Pinteresting of woolly delights (that were only occasionally interrupted by wedding related pins ....I've been for engaged 3 weeks and Pinterest has basically planned my wedding for me!)
So I have collated a selection of beautiful woollen products to make or buy, I hope you enjoy these delights as much as I do!
Woolly goodness to make
Knit a scarf! - for yourself or a gift, a scarf is a great place to start knitting as it's a straight line. I promise I will do a pattern soon and talk you through it but for now heres a lovely block colour pattern with tassels and everything!
Make Baby Booties - by using readymade felt you simply have to cut out and stick it together somehow. Theres a beautiful pattern by Purl Soho if you click on the image below.
Wool Ball Decorations - you can use up scraps of wool by wrapping them around a styrofoam ball and dunking in it some PVA to hold. Then you can use your imagination for what to do with them!
Make a Felt Ball Rug - It may take a while but boy will it be worth it! Everyone loves a felt ball rug no? you can pick your own colours or make an exciting pattern - you could even write a word...so fun!
Add Some Adorable Elbow Patches - Your Jumpers and cardigans will never look cuter! And if you're not a heart person you could go for simple ovals or squares for fun!
Super Simple Tassel - For bunting, gift wrapping or Christmas, a single tassel or a thousand they take barely any time and are a great use for left over scraps of yarn!
Woolly Goodness to Buy
When it comes to DIY theres some things that are great to try and some that shouldn't be approached, this is normally because a) they are far too hard or too much effort and b) someone else does them so beautifully why would we bother attempting it? When talented people make beautiful things we don't need to rip of their ideas and try to make it ourselves (to create a lesser product that would probably cost as much once we've wasted the first lot of materials doing it wrong never mind factoring in our time!) These are a few of my favourite Woollen pieces to purchase and admire...
A Beautiful Needle Felted Friend - 2 of my lovely friends are needle-felters and I LOVE all of their creations! Benton's Menagerie is full of frolicking foxes and moon-gazing bunnies. She is also teaching a workshop in Italy so if you did want to attempt needle felting Tracey can show you how its done!
Carla from The Mousehole Woolery also teaches workshops and with her adorable buddies are hard so resist! Just look at this little guy pocking his head out to say hello!
Love your Socks - When it comes to socks you can't beat a beautiful, cozy, handmade pair of EKA love heart socks.
Snuggly Clothing - Basically ANYTHING....just anything by Gabrielle Vary Knitwear. It's all stunning, beautiful quality and great colours! I LOVE it all but am only allowing myself one item at a time and am starting with a scarf... or a wrap...or both.
What's that you say? Knitted Throws?? Oh well I do know a place -
Get Super Cosy With a Super Chunky Hand Knitted Throw - I happen to have a range of super chunky hand knitted throws that are available in many many colours and sizes. Heres a pictures of one and if you click on it you can magically see more ;)
Here's another image in case that one wasn't Cosy Enough....
So thats Wool Week! I hope you get cosy and enjoy all the woolliness England has to offer!
Thanks again for reading you lovelies. Speak to you soon!!!
