Contemporary Craft Festival

Well I had a marvellous weekend, what about you?!

I was lucky enough to visit the Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey. If you've never been, put it on your calendar for next year! And if you have been, well then, you can imagine the level of gushing that will shortly ensue!

I have a particular soft spot for the CCF since, as some of you may know, it was this time last year when I visited that very show, that I had my knitting epiphany and dedicated myself to my knitted wares. Don't think that this colours my vision though, it truely is a wonderful event. Of course I forgot to take any pictures while I was there (blame my general over excitement and the rush of enthusiasm to get round and see everything) so I've borrowed a few images from others.

The only picture I took, at the end of the day with my feet up, cup of tea and of course, biscuits; surrounded some of my new purchases! Here is my AMAZING Marna Lunt Brooch and my delightful Grace and Favour Home lavender bag (hand made in Devon using English lavender don't you know?!)

It would be impossible (or at the very least, extremely long winded) to fill you in in everything and everyone I adored so I've managed to narrow it down to just a few...

Marna Lunt, textiles artist

I have been not-so-secretly coveting Marna's incredible work since I saw her at the same festival last year. Her hand stitched portraits are the stuff of dreams, her landscapes so beautiful you want to take a stroll in them, and her brooches are spectacular (I can say with confidence as I bought one and have worn it constantly ever since Saturday). She is truely an inspiration, you only have to speak to her for a minute to realise what a genuinely pleasant and warm person she is. If you have not yet discovered the joy of Marna's work I'm so pleased to introduce you to it!

This fine chap won the 'Best Stand' award so you know it's going to be good. The treasures Andy creates at [Vinegar&Brownpaper] are simply wonderful (and hilarious) . From encouraging mirrors to mocking pint glasses it truely was a deserving winner. The Port decanters caught our eye - saying 'Port' on one side and 'Starboard' on the other... What more could you want in life than a witty decanter?! Bravo on having the Best Stand Andy! p.s Thanks for the biscuits!

[Vinegar&brownpaper] goodies. There's a bit of a Bourbon biscuit theme on this post isn't there.

The lovely Laura from Boop design creates such beautiful and adorable porcelain bottle vases and jewellery. I have 2 of her brooches that are permanently attached to my favourite jacket (clearly I have a thing from brooches!) and i've been trying to decide which of her bottles I want the most - the washing line or the dandelion?! Her gorgeous stand was packed full of these goodies and her new ladder display looked fantastic! If you also adore a nice brooch or a simplistic & sweet little vase do take a look

Hopefully there will be at least one new discovery for you there! These talented makers are all wonderful and I can't wait to see them at the next event. In fact I'm turning into a bit of a stalker, I may need to wear a crude moustache disguise at the next fair to fool them. So anyway, in conclusion, If you've not visited the Contemporary Craft Festival before, it really is one to visit! I will be applying next year *Eeeek! and the fantastic Sarah James who organises it has kindly accepted me to show at Made by Hand in Cardiff later this year where I will be selling along side some more talented makers… Exciting times! But thats for another blog another day...
