The Best Of Contemporary Craft Festival 17

Hello!

Did any of you wonderful humans get to the Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracy at the weekend? It's honestly one of my favourite weekends of the year - 3 tents packed full of high quality craft and arts. And as some of you may know, when I visited in 2014 it was the reason I decided to set up my business. The exciting, colourful and communal push I needed. So it does hold a special place in my heart however it is, in it's own right a fantastic display of incredible Craft.

I'm struggling to remember half of this years show because I was wondering around in a happy daze and telling exhibitors 'I LOVE your work SO much!' red faced and practically vibrating with glee. I honestly love it so much.

Of course I tried to keep my money in my pocket, it's my quiet time of year... we've just booked our holiday.. we could really do with that new sofa... and I really meant it, but somethings just called to me and I simply couldn't resist. The brilliant part is that I don't feel guilty about any of my purchases because I love them all, so I absolutely know it was the right thing to do.

So i'll cut to the chase and share what I bought (granted the title 'The Best of The Contemporary Craft Festival 17' might be bias as basically in my opinion 'the best' is everything I bought!) but there were of course SO MANY amazing exhibitors who's i'd happily add to this list if I had more spending money.

What I got...

I came home with this little lady on Thursday Night (the private view) and I'm still searching for a name for her. Any suggestions gratefully received - for now i'm leaning towards Mildred for some reason.

She's hand stitched from start to finish by lovely Lucy from The Cat in the Shoe. I've been after one of Lucy's ladies for years, since we met at Nourish Festival -we were neighbouring exhibitors for the day- but I've not been able to choose, until this gal caught my eye. I adore her, not only does she have a squirrel tail and pompom shoes but she really is nailing that outfit (if anyone knows where I can get a human version please let me know!)...

On Saturday I enjoyed a mini spree buying adorable accessories just for me! And why not, we all need to treat ourselves occasionally right? I went for...

  • My most favourite purse from Grace and Favour Home (I've also got toilet bags and tote bags on order, their new collection is an absolute dream!)
  • A fabulous felt Watermelon brooch by Lynsey Walters, which brightens up every single outfit I own, it's fabulous!
  • A hair bow from Miesje Chafer - to make my bun fun (and it looks super cute on your wrist too if you don't fancy hair up)

And my final purchase was one of those 'I shouldn't but I can't help myself' I nearly walked out without this guy but I am SO happy I didn't. He's my pride and joy! My beautiful Ceramic whale (with a boat on his head) by Gwen Vaughan. I also met Gwen at Nourish a few years ago and had my eye on her polar bears (she knit's little jumpers for them!) but when I saw this guy it was love at first sight!

spent out

I seriously was spent out and am not allowed to buy anything for a while now according to my bank balance, however it was SO worth it, every piece I brought home I love and I really hope that my spending has introduced you to some of these amazing makers. (I'm very selfless that way ;) )

Of course, as I mentioned above, the wonders of the Contemporary Craft Festival spanned to hundreds of stunning exhibitors so I highly recommend a visit if you can make it down to Devon next year - you know I'll be there, and I'm always up for a cup of tea and a natter - and in the mean time please do visit their website and have a gander at some of the other makers!

That's all for tonight, I think I still need to recover from the excitement. I'll see you next week with a post on the Instagram Shadowban (boo!) If you have any questions about the Shadowban that you'd like me to address just pop them in the comments below or send me an email (please note, I will cover 'what is the shadowban' for anyone who's not familiar haha)
