The Secret Is Out!
Yes the secret is out and I'm so relieved I can finally tell you... It's a book!
PHEW! I was ready to burst! Well done to everyone who guessed correctly in the giveaway last week and thank you to all who participated. You make it so much more fun. I've had lots of lovely questions about what's in the book and how it came to be so I thought I'd fill you all in over here, any questions i've missed feel free to ask in the comments :D
I honestly can't believe the poetic timing of this but it was a year ago today when I received an email from Cindy, a publisher at Cico Books, she'd seen an article in The Metro about me and my giant knitting, and got in touch to ask if i'd like to publish a book of knitting patterns with them! I jumped at the opportunity, especially since I own lots of their books and love the styling, photography and makes in all of them.
After a busy Christmas we finally got stuck in in January and by April I needed to have supplied them with 35 original finished makes and patterns. (Great time to move house and go on holiday Aston!) Luckily as it had been in the pipelines a while I had plenty of ideas bubbling away and it was exciting to use such a variety of yarns and create things that were totally different to normal.
'So what's in it?!' I hear you ask! Well It's a homeware and accessories book with a couple of patterns for Children and Christmas. I used a real mixture of yarns, of course, all chunky (I'll never go back to needles smaller than 10mm, even they felt tiny) The goal of Super Chunky Knitting is to get fun and impactful results fast - it's brilliant for quick gifts and beginners because you see it growing so quickly. There's a real variety of patterns from beginners to expert and plenty you can do in an evening or weekend without having to dedicate months of your life to one item. (I'm not patient enough for that!)
The main needle sizes I used were 10mm, 12mm, 25mm and 40mm. I used a lot of my own yarn, focusing on neutral colours mixed with a splash of brights but also other brands you can find globally. My new yarn (the smaller stuff) will be available shortly along with the different needle sizes you may need incase you want to give it a bash. I also made a number of pompom related projects as a way of using up off cuts of yarn so you can maximise your yarn supply. There's no point letting it go to waste!
I must admit it was a lot more work than i'd originally imagined and to begin with I really doubted my own ability and creativity but thank's to the Cico team and Kate Haxell who edited my messy patterns, we're getting there and most of my part is finished for now. The final designs and photographs are still in process and there's a long way to go before it comes out in November but everything so far has been brilliant. I am beyond excited to share it with you and really hope you'll like it and (can't believe i'm saying it) hope a few of you enjoy knitting things from it that came from my head!
All the pics in this post are makes from the book and I'll continue sharing a number of the quick images I've snapped and the proper images Cico have taken closer to the time but in the mean time it is available to pre-order should you fancy a copy!
I really really really hope you'll like it. Bring on November! (says the girl who tries not to wish her life away)
