Button (Kn)it Up Cardigan

The cosiest, slouchy cardigan which will be one of your wardrobe essentials all year round! This cardigan is a reworking of our dreamy oversized cardigan but will become your new favourite! We’ve added the option of buttons and pockets to give this pattern more adaptability for styling.

With a simple and classic shape, this cardigan is easy to wear and a really flattering design for all body shapes and sizes. Wear it casual with your Lucy & Yaks, or dress it up with a dress and heeled boots - once you’ve knitted one you’ll want one in every colour! And be prepared for everyone you know to ask for one! :p (Luckily they’re fast and fun to make and they would indeed make the most incredible gift!)

The pattern uses a combination of knit & purl stitches with some basic shaping. Should you need a helping hand, you can find extra direction and help over on my Knitting Knowledge page which covers it all in more detail. The kit includes How to Knit instructions and should take around 10 hours to make (although it may take longer for beginners).

Choose from 3 x sizes in the kit - Small fits UK 6-12, Medium fits UK 12-18 and Large fits UK 18-24. However, depending on how you like to wear your knitwear the sizes are pretty adaptable. For example, if you’d like it slouchy you can size up (see images: I’m a size 8-10 and the Lilac cardigan pictured is a Small, the fuchsia cardigan is a Medium. I personally prefer the fit of the Medium. Helen is a size 16 and wears the Fuchsia Medium and has also made a Large that is lovely and slouchy that she prefers the size of.) So once you’ve checked your tension, we recommend measuring one of your existing tops to see how it compares before you decide which size to knit (measurements below)

Your kit comes beautifully packaged in one of our environmentally friendly LAD bags. Perfect for keeping your knitting project all in one place and once you finish your knitting you can then use your bag to store and organise toys, accessories or use as a travel bag.
