How to knit and a Free Hat Pattern

Oh Hi!

This weeks blog is a handy How To Knit guide as I want to share the knitting love with you all (it’s too much fun not to!) We all know, knitting is super cool and totally wonderful. It has so many benefits – not only does it result in beautiful scarfs, blankets, hats and pet accessories but it is proven to be good for your mental health – as we learnt last year in one of my personal favourite blog posts ‘11 insane (but true) things about knitting‘ (that post also has a picture of Ryan Gosling so is deffo worth a quick look)

Once you’ve learnt the knitty gritty (couldn’t help myself) then you’ll be away. A scarf is always a fun starting point as it’s just a straight line, simply cast on the amount of stitches you fancy and knit knit knit until it’s long enough.

Side note - I did not knit this scarf, Gap knitted this scarf (every time I wear this scarf someone asks me if I knitted it...I did not)

With Christmas around the corner, knitting is a brilliant skill to have as you can make your presents (both thoughtful and fabulous) so if you’re feeling mildly confident with your new knittings skills then I’ve also written up the pattern for this spiffy hat ^  It’s a quick and easy pattern that just uses 2 basic stitches which you’ll know from the ‘how to knit guide’. I whipped mine up in a couple of hours in front of the TV and even better is that it only uses 90g of yarn so with 1 hank of yarn you can make 2 hats in 4 hours and it’ll only cost you £15 in materials (and don’t make me bang on about how beautiful merino wool is AGAIN…All I’ll say is Hypoallergenic and stunningly soft!) and you could even use the left over to make a pompom and fix it to the top!

When it comes to buying your yarn – If you want more than 1 colour don’t forget to use the yarn bundles listing where you can save the more you buy (double thumbs up) I’m so excited about alllll the hats!

Do let me know how you get on learning to knit and making your hats, I am TOO excited to see them! (we can all twin wear our hats but in different colours….we’ll be like a 90’s pop band.)

What’s the catch?

I promise there’s no big catch, all I’d like from you in return is your email address, so I can pop beautiful images into your inbox on a monthly basis (or when I actually remember…) and if you get bored of me you can unsubscribe anytime…don’t worry that I can see who you are when you unsubscribe, I don’t take it personally and cry about it for hours … 😉

How to knit

So… before you start knitting your hat, you’ll need to know how to knit! I know there are a lot of you out there who are all experienced knitters so you can go straight to downloading the pattern, but for those of you who need a little help, please find below three handy print-outs.

They’re broken down into Casting On, Knitting (knit and purl stitches – all you ever need in life) and Casting off (which you don’t even need to know for this hat but it’s always useful so you can finish your scarf)…

Enjoy your new found skills and keep me posted with how you get on! And don’t forget to sign up to my newsletter to get your free chunky hat pattern!

Until next time (eek, Christmas is nearly here!!!)
