Make one – YO (Yarn Over), Knit
‘Flyaway’ Mini Mohair Shawl
Another of our dreamy mini mohair knit kits – this one is perfect for beginners.
Create a floaty flyaway shawl that can be knit up as big as you like. We’ve used two balls for the size pictured, but you can just carry on knitting until it’s more of a wrap – it’s totally up to you how big you want to make it. We’ve given you the option of adding up to three more balls to your kit.
This pattern is lovely and repetitive and just uses knit stitch. The simple decorative edging is created using YO stitch – which is all explained in the pattern.
Choose to knit the shawl in one bock colour (we chose lilac), add an accent colour for stripes, or add more colours to make it multi-coloured, or knit in an ombre style.
We’ve given the option of adding circular needles for this pattern as the length of the cord on the circular needles allows you to make it as big as you like. However, you are able to knit it on straight single pointed needles too if you have them already.
There are so many ways of styling this shawl but we particularly love adding one of our pearl doer-uppers to fasten and add a hint of sparkle too.
Top tip: This pattern uses two strands of yarn at the same time – find both ends of the same ball (one on the outside, one just inside the middle), place them together, and knit as if they are one yarn.
Approx 156 cm (longest end) x 56 cm from the bottom of the triangle to the top (using 2 x balls)

We source our Merino yarn from happy sheep.
Merino sheep are not native to this country so the wool itself is provided from farms around the world, however, we are very careful where we do source our fibre from. Our Merino is from South America and the South African Cape and we don’t buy from farms that mules their sheep.
The best quality of wool comes from happy sheep. If a sheep has a poor diet and general poor health its fleece will suffer. Both the quality of life for the sheep and the quality of wool it produces are hugely important to us. We have strong relationships with our suppliers to ensure that we can trust them and their practices. Merino shearers are all trained well to do it as efficiently and kindly as possible and the sheep are a lot happier once their 5kg fleeces are off!
