Small, Medium, Large
Shaping, Knit, Purl
The cosiest, slouchy cardigan which will be one of your wardrobe essentials all year round! This cardigan is a reworking of our dreamy oversized cardigan but will become your new favourite! We’ve added the option of buttons and pockets to give this pattern more adaptability for styling.
With a simple and classic shape, this cardigan is easy to wear and really flattering for all body shapes and sizes. Wear it casual with your Lucy & Yaks, or dress it up with a dress and heeled boots – once you’ve knitted one you’ll want one in every colour! And be prepared for everyone you know to ask for one! :p (Luckily they’re fast and fun to make and they would indeed make the most incredible gift!)
The pattern uses a combination of knit & purl stitches with some basic shaping. Should you need a helping hand, you can find extra direction and help over on my Knitting Knowledge page which covers it all in more detail. The kit includes How to Knit instructions and should take around 10 hours to make (although it may take longer for beginners).
Depending on how you like to wear your knitwear the sizes are pretty adaptable. For example, if you’d like it slouchy you can size up (see images: I’m a size 8-10 and the Lilac cardigan pictured is a Small, the fuchsia cardigan is a Medium. I personally prefer the fit of the Medium. Helen is a size 16 and wears the Fuchsia Medium and has also made a Large that is lovely and slouchy that she prefers the size of.)
The pattern includes instructions to make sizes 6-24 – measurements below:
Small (UK 6-12): 55cm wide x 50cm long approx
Medium (UK 12-18): 65cm wide x 50cm long approx
Large (UK 18-24): 76cm wide x 50cm long approx
We ALWAYS recommend doing a tension swatch to make sure your tension matches the gauge of the pattern and if not you can adapt the pattern accordingly.

We source our Merino yarn from happy sheep.
Merino sheep are not native to this country so the wool itself is provided from farms around the world, however, we are very careful where we do source our fibre from. Our Merino is from South America and the South African Cape and we don’t buy from farms that mules their sheep.
The best quality of wool comes from happy sheep. If a sheep has a poor diet and general poor health its fleece will suffer. Both the quality of life for the sheep and the quality of wool it produces are hugely important to us. We have strong relationships with our suppliers to ensure that we can trust them and their practices. Merino shearers are all trained well to do it as efficiently and kindly as possible and the sheep are a lot happier once their 5kg fleeces are off!
You can now choose to have your yarn in a hank or a ball!
Our Great Balls of Yarn are beautifully wound so you can start knitting straight away. Instead of spending your valuable time winding them yourself when you could be starting on your latest project, or having the worry of tangling up while you’re knitting, these balls are expertly and beautifully wound by us, for you.
Each hank/ball is around 200g (and 130m) and is best knit on 10mm-15mm needles.
If you choose to stick with hanks of yarn, most of our customers find it easier to wind them before knitting. Snip the ties holding the hank together and you’ll find the end of the yarn. Pop it over the back of a chair, a door handle or your knees and wind into a ball, before starting your knitting.
